On oil or LPG? You could get £9,000 towards a heat pump

£7,500 grant plus £1,500 extra for oil or LPG homes switching to an air or ground source heat pump, until March 2027.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards a heat pump in England and Wales. The extra £1,500 is only for an air or ground source heat pump. Air-to-air heat pumps (which blow warm air, with no radiators) get £2,500 instead.

What it means for you

• You need an MCS installer (certified to the UK standard). They apply for the grant for you.
• The grant comes off the installer's price. You don't claim it back later.
• A heat pump (an electric unit that moves heat from outside air into your home) works best in a well-insulated home.
• Your home needs a valid EPC (Energy Performance Certificate). Check yours on the EPC register (England & Wales).
